A live installation & participation piece set in a unique venue in Edinburgh, exploring the shared experiences of childhood and contemplating the changing shape of human interaction through the act of reading aloud.
DOK ARTIST SPACE, OCEAN DRIVE, EDINBURGH
OPENING EVENT: 1st June, 6.30-9pm
PERFORMANCE OPEN: 2nd -5th June, 10am–5pm
Following PATIENCE I & II, (GENERATOR PROJECTS, Dundee, and Whitespace, Edinburgh, both 2015), which saw participants invited to sit down and solve a jigsaw with the artist in the gallery space, READ TO ME focuses on connecting through the subtle experiences of childhood, asking the viewer to simply take a seat and read aloud.
On a journey to build connections between the viewer and the artist, Ballantine asks you not to just observe the work but to participate. By invoking a shared experience between the artist and participant, Ballnatineseeks to connect with the viewer by placing them in a position reserved normally for close family members and partners.
