Noel tells a variety of stories including the tales of Leith, where he grew up during the war years, family tales, the stories of Bill Naughton, and stories which stimulate creative writing.
He enjoys telling stories to upper primary and secondary school, and adults.
Noel was raised in a strongly Irish Catholic environment in Edinburgh. Surrounded by his extended family, the spoken word was an integral part of his upbringing. He was first attracted to storytelling after hearing Betsy Whyte and other storytellers at the literature and narrative have prompted him to develop his storytelling activities. He has set up an evening class in storytelling and storymaking in Edinburgh, and has run workshops for volunteers who work with children. Part of his ongoing work in secondary schools involves using stories to stimulate pupils' creative writing skills.
As a researcher and storyteller, Noel contributes to the Scottish Storytelling Centre's Edinburgh Story Tours project which introduces primary children to their own local area through the medium of stories. He has also told stories at the Scottish International Storytelling Festival and the Guid Crack Club.
