Marion Kenny is a charismatic live performer, one of Scotland’s leading storytellers, a highly regarded multi instrumentalist, and an inspirational trainer. Marion’s father Patrick was a tweed weaver from Donegal in Eire and from a long tradition of oral storytellers. Her mother Audrey is a professional musician and comes from long line of musicians hailing from Worcestershire in England
Her repertoire includes the great epic sagas from Ireland and Scotland, also folk tales, supernatural and trickster tales, wonder tales, creation myths, stories of the natural world, myths, legends, historical stories and tales from all corners of the Globe.
Marion draws on her wealth of experience as a musician; circus performer, dancer and actress to enhance and compliment stories, accompanying them with harps, flutes and instruments she has picked up on her extensive travels around the world, incorporating juggling, magic, dance and character work when the occasion lends itself. Marion’s passion for world culture has led her to perform, teach and research extensively internationally including China, Indonesia, Qatar, Australia, New Zealand, Uzbekistan and Iran. A pioneer of educational and interpretative storytelling in museums, galleries and heritage sites in Scotland, Marion regularly works for the education and events departments such as The National Museums of Scotland, The National Galleries of Scotland, Historic Scotland, The National Trust, The National Libraries of Scotland, The Royal Botanical Gardens, as well as numerous smaller regional museums, galleries and libraries.
Marion has trained hundreds of education and heritage professionals in storytelling approaches and helped thousands of children find their narrative voice through workshops and arts in education projects. Marion is an ‘Arts award advisor’ for the Princes Trust and spent many years as Storyteller in residence for the National Museums of Scotland. She is hugely experienced working with any age group from babies to elderly people and is at home in any venue.
