Research Position: Digital Media in Folk Arts Participation
A new post-doctoral position is available at the University of Sheffield.
The Department of Music is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral Research Associate to work on a research project, entitled Digital Folk: Digital Media in Folk Arts Participation. The project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and will consider the ways in which folk arts participants make use of digital resources, tools and networks in order to learn, collaborate, reinterpret traditional material and create new work.
You will work alongside the Principal Investigator (Dr Simon Keegan-Phipps) and Co-Investigator (Prof. David Gauntlett – University of Westminster), to carry out the day-to-day running of the project, conduct a range of field- and desk-based research, and contribute to the authoring and dissemination of the project’s findings.
You will have a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. ethnomusicology; media; cultural studies; digital anthropology), and a proven ability to disseminate research findings to both academic and non-academic audiences. You will play a key role in a leading and cross-disciplinary research team; benefit from opportunities to develop a number of co-authored publications; and develop experience of public-engaging and industry-facing research.
