Drawing inspiration from the fiddle and dance traditions of Ireland, Scotland, England, Canada, and Appalachia, Scott Hartley & Nic Gareiss re-animate the dynamic symbiosis of bowed string and percussive dance. The duo has performed together internationally, including appearances in Galicia, Spain as well as UK concerts at the Sage Gateshead and London's Cecil Sharp House. Scott and Nic supplement contemporary training received through traditional arts degrees at Newcastle University and the University of Limerick respectively with their own firsthand (and firstfoot!) ethnographic encounters with tradition-bearers. In their concerts dancer becomes musician and musician becomes mover as they re-imagine the relationship between gesture and sound. Through their explorations of time-worn fiddle tunes, songs, and steps, folk dance and music traditions are simultaneously honoured and forged anew.
