A weekend workshop with two of Scotland’s best known poet-performer-promoters, Rachel McCrum (BBC Scotland Poet in Residence 2015) & Jenny Lindsay (Flint & Pitch). Exploring both the creative and practical sides of creating long form spoken word shows; working with technical sound and lighting in a professional theatre space; sessions on pitching and booking tours, marketing, press & PR.
This two day workshop is a rare opportunity for spoken word artists, poets and performers to take their work to the next level in the gorgeous 99 seater Netherbow Theatre at the Scottish Storytelling Centre. Over the course of the weekend, participants will explore how to develop a long form poetry/spoken word show; how to make the most of professional theatre spaces, including developing stagecraft; creating lighting cues and working with a theatre technician; practical advice on how to pitch a show to venues and promoters; suggestions for seeking funding; and how to develop tour and marketing plans.
The weekend will culminate with an hour long performance on the Sunday 23rd.
