Welcome to the Story Café
The Story Café is good:
Comas took over the café in May 2016 and offers a warm welcome to local residents and visitors to Edinburgh with tasty food available throughout the day.
Our chef Maggie is famous for her scones and cakes, and adds a Scottish flair to all her cooking. Born in Glasgow with a healthy love of music, Maggie’s well-spent youth includes running the JOY nightclub for many years, and she blessed the Blue Moon Café on Broughton Street with her cooking skills before gracing the Story Café kitchen.
Judith is a well kent face front of house in the Story Café. Her secret passion is reflexology which is possibly how she manages to stay on her feet so long and still smile.
Jana hails from the Czech Republic and is also our front of house team. A law graduate, Jana is ably assisting while she considers the next step in her studies.
Kim, Heather, Karen and Ruth will all be seen from time to time helping out for evenings and busy days. You might catch a glimpse of Alex who helps behind the scenes keeping the kitchen engines running smoothly.
All of this is managed by our Café Development Manager, Mary Collins, who keeps this and Serenity Café (our community café down the road) working smoothly. Mary has transformed Serenity Café and is now working her magic on the Story Café.
The Café is a great space to meet friends and family. It’s a light and bright space that looks out onto the busy Royal Mile, offering tranquillity from the hustle and bustle outside. It’s a family-friendly Café which has lots of space for buggies. Children can run around in the Storytelling Court and be entertained by our Storywall and activity box whilst you relax. The Storytelling Court always has a free exhibition for our visitors to enjoy which changes every month or two.

Some of our staff are Comas community members and we are delighted the Story Café can offer them a step into paid employment after volunteering in our Serenity Café.
